MOBILIZING ACTION AGAINST BAD GOVERNANCE, ILLITERACY, AND NON –PERFORMANCE POLICY

Establishing the Enduring Framework that defines our Works CGQS began in Nigeria as a union of some groups of teachers who felt strong concerns for the plights of educational development and governance in the country and motivated to creating quick and lasting responses to the dilapidating structures of public schools.

Advocacy Programme for Public Schools

CGQS as widely recognized NGO initiated the stand up for the public schools (SPS) campaign and started to engage government, the national assembly, international agencies, stakeholders groups and the media, using its experience to influence major policy – change, attract donor funds and influence decision makers, to improve the development of public schools and education in Nigeria. Some year, CGQS employed local people & volunteers nationally and started to fund development works, seeking long – term improvement to the lives of poor people.

Building Synergies and Capacity with Civil Society to Engage Effectively

 CGQS increased its campaigning for quality education and participatory governance, building partnerships in the global camping for education (GCE) initiative, and with Oxfam Great Britain, Civicus international, and the Federal Ministry of Education in Nigeria.

CGQS hits the headlines for its work in Lagos & Abuja where it has engage government and joined forces with CSACEFA and other development agencies to effect major government policy changes and support for local education.

By the end of the year CGQS has set up an innovative and development training programme, to build – capacities of Teachers, youths and social workers to engage more effectively with national government, local authorities and inter – governmental agencies on issues of governance qualitative education, policy and implementation, etc.

Fighting and Campaigning Against Corruption Head- on

CGQS enlisted as one of the major player of NGOS working on Anti – corruption in governance, and launched its ‘War Against Corruption’ crusade via her popular “Integrity Education for Nigeria” campaign, and the mass probe of government and her cohorts over the N7.5 billion failed contract fund. That same year CGQS partnered with Woman’s World Summit Foundation (WWSF) to promote the World Day for prevention of Child Abuse. The result was a huge Success. For her contribution to human development CGQS was recognized and honored at GAFEX Award 06.

Debate to Action Step down Training

CGQS got enlisted on the British Council/World Institute Debate to Action (DTA) project as step – down and capacity – building trainer of youth organization and NGO’S across Nigeria. It also got a grant from British Council on this account. The DTA project is aimed at strengthening the development knowledge base and information network, as well as engagement of youth organization.

CGQS also launched a partnership initiative with Trans National Corporation (Transcorp) Nigeria, to change the perception and engagement of people and government agencies over the privatization exercise after the Obasanjo administration.

Youth Media Workshop & Seminars;

 Publications & Awards CGQS further initiated varieties of Youth Media Workshops and educative Seminars for identified constituents and target groups ranging from Youths- in- school, Youths- out-of- School, Journalists, to Youth- based organizations’ leaders and civil society volunteers.

Educative Seminar & Workshop on Participatory Budgeting

As part of our concerted efforts to improve representative governance and the practice of participatory Budgeting, we have pulled forces with the World Bank, UNHABITAT and some other donor agencies in a collaboration linked by MDP-ESA, to strengthen Citizens independent oversight in monitoring Budget execution in West Africa. CGQS is also initiating programmes alongside, to introduce PB as governance models to Local Municipalities, and help them to run pilots in other to enable them assess its efficiency in public administration. The process is an on-going one.

Building Synergies to promote Integrity Education for Youths

 A part of an on-going work as CGQS is the value- laden exercise of networking and establishing synergies with recognized civil society players and donor organizations to form coalitions in promoting Integrity Education for Nigerian Youth. In a society over-bearing with unending instances of corruption and societal- rape, what more could be strategic than breeding a capable, dependable leaders’ generation with formidable integrity consciousness.

 

The Impact of Managerial Skills on Student’s Career Development

CGQS in conjunction with Nigerian Institute of Management co-ordinated a Seminar for Youths and Students to target building Skills in order to empowered these groups for handling Leadership positions at all levels
